Springtime in the Rockies is interesting. It may snow a foot one day, but 30 minutes away mountain biking season is in full swing. Shredding powder in the A.M. and peddling fast in the P.M. is not out of the norm this time of year.

Moab has been riding well for awhile, Fruita and the Grand Junction area are off the chain right now, Salida has been epic in between storm cycles, Hartman Rocks in Gunnison has been open for the past couple of weeks, and man, has it been good. Recent spring moisture has created a brown pow haven on the Western Slope.

With the opening of trails, questions, rumors, and hopes begin as to when the epic Crested Butte terrain will be open. It’ll be awhile; it’s snowing today… Keep up with the frequently updated trail guides Travel Crested Butte and CBMBA offer. In the meantime head south and either east or west and get those early season legs spinnin’. May is around the corner, which means June is too. Don’t show up to Bike Week this year without heading out-of-town to ride first. Early season tracks, especially when it’s snowing in CB, are the BEST.
