Travis is the one with the ideas. As a former and current shop owner in Crested Butte, bike industry dude, pilot, and ongoing project manager it's no wonder he's always thinking of what's next, and there came Chopwood Mercantile. Blending his passion of outdoor retail being a force for good and a town where he can ride his horses and shred singletrack in the same day, he's co-owner and full-time schemer of Chopwood. Way too many too choose from. I love mountain towns all over the world because they are gateways to exploring our six senses and meeting new dogs.
Crested Butte, CO - Summer, wildflowers, & single track.
Copper Harbor, MI - It's the very northern point of the upper peninsula of Michigan. Amazing trails, Lake superior, & steep rolling hills.
Sunrise coffee at any river camp while in the Grand Canyon. Nothing better than the serenity of hot coffee in the big ditch. No electronic interruptions.
Wanderlust Brewery, Flagstaff, AZ - It’s a raw spot in an industrial park with great beer, parking lot tables to meet new people, and the smell of the pines after riding amazing single track.
Flora Farms, Pizzicleta, La Santisima, Tacos Del Gnar, and backcountry river trip kitchens. Why? All killer food and amazing service.
Any southwest USA river canyon. River trips are my reset.
Backcountry West Elk Wilderness on one of my horses and Trail 401 during wildflower season on bike.
There is no one single place. It can be the horse barn, Lower Loop mountain bike ride or a far off place. Just knowing when to escape and breath is best for me.
It’s still a raw mountain town and summertime.
Building a B-Corp Certified outdoor shop that provides unique gear and guidance to foster experiences in wild places. Crested Butte is an incredibly challenging place to start and build a business, but that is exactly what makes Chopwood special especially the overwhelming tremendous support.
